Lab Grown Diamond Tennis Bracelets & Necklaces: A Buyer's Guide

How to choose a lab grown diamond tennis bracelet or necklace — carat weight, settings, clasps, sizing and metal, explained simply.

Luzora Jewels tennis bracelet and necklace guide featuring lab-grown diamond jewelry in different styles and metals.

Few pieces of jewelry are as instantly elegant as a line of diamonds around the wrist or neck. The tennis bracelet — and its glamorous sibling, the tennis necklace — goes from jeans to black tie without missing a beat.

And because lab grown diamonds cost far less than mined diamonds of the same quality, a full-carat tennis bracelet is now within reach for many more people. Here's what to look for.

Why is it called a "tennis" bracelet?

The name comes from a famous moment in the 1980s, when a professional tennis player's diamond line bracelet broke during a match and play was paused while she searched for it. The story stuck — and so did the name.

1. Total carat weight (CTW)

Tennis jewelry is measured in total carat weight — the combined weight of every diamond.

  • 1–2 CTW — delicate and dainty; perfect for everyday wear and stacking
  • 3–5 CTW — the classic "wow" look; noticeable sparkle without being heavy
  • 6 CTW and up — a true statement piece for special occasions

2. Diamond shape

Round diamonds are the traditional choice and give the most sparkle. Emerald cut tennis pieces feel sleek and modern, with a refined glow. Oval and mixed-shape lines are a stylish, contemporary twist.

3. Setting style

  • Four-prong — shows the most diamond and light; the classic look
  • Bezel — each stone wrapped in metal; smooth, modern and very secure
  • Channel / collet — snag-free and protective, ideal for daily wear

4. Consistency matters

In a line of 30, 50 or 150+ diamonds, any stone that's slightly yellower or cloudier than its neighbors stands out. The best tennis jewelry uses carefully matched diamonds. This is where growing our own diamonds helps: we can sort and match stones for color and size before setting, so the whole line looks even from end to end.

5. The clasp

Look for a box clasp with a safety catch (often a figure-eight or side latch). The double lock means that even if the main clasp is knocked open, the piece stays on.

6. Getting the size right

For bracelets, measure the wrist snugly and add roughly 0.5–1 inch for a comfortable fit. We offer bracelet lengths of 6.5", 7", 7.5" and 8" — 7" is the most common for women. Use the Find My Size tool on any bracelet page if you're unsure.

For necklaces, 16–18 inches sits gracefully at the collarbone — the most popular length for tennis necklaces.

7. Choosing the metal

White gold and platinum make the diamonds look icy and continuous. Yellow and rose gold add warmth and a vintage feel. For a piece worn every day, 14K gold is a great balance of durability and richness. (See our guide: 14K vs 18K Gold vs Platinum.)

Caring for tennis jewelry

  • Take it off for sports, gym sessions and heavy lifting.
  • Check the clasp and prongs every few months.
  • Store it flat or in its own pouch so it doesn't tangle or scratch other pieces.
